What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, impulses, and activity level. It begins in childhood, often continues into adulthood, and frequently goes unrecognized for years, especially in adults who have built elaborate systems just to keep up.
What can ADHD look like?
Symptoms cluster in two groups, and many adults experience a combination of both:
Inattentive symptoms
- Difficulty sustaining focus on tasks or conversations
- Disorganization and losing track of deadlines
- Forgetfulness in daily routines
- Frequently misplacing phones, keys, and paperwork
- Avoiding tasks that require sustained mental effort
- Careless mistakes despite real effort
Hyperactive and impulsive symptoms
- Restlessness or difficulty sitting through meetings
- Talking over others or finishing their sentences
- Acting on impulse before thinking it through
- Impatience with waiting or slow processes
- Feeling driven, unable to wind down
How is ADHD treated?
Medication
Both stimulant and non-stimulant options exist, and the right choice depends on your history, health, and goals. We titrate carefully: the lowest effective dose, clear goals, and adjustments you understand.
Skills and therapy
Structure, routines, and therapy-informed skills for organization and follow-through often matter as much as medication, and the two work best together.
