Insomnia Care in Iowa City

Sleep that will not come, or will not stay, wears everything else down. We evaluate and treat insomnia in adults, including when it travels with anxiety, depression, or ADHD.

What is insomnia?

Insomnia is persistent trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early, with real daytime consequences. It often arrives alongside other conditions and can keep them going: poor sleep worsens mood, focus, and anxiety, which in turn worsen sleep.

What can insomnia look like?

It shows up at night and follows you into the day:

At night

  • Lying awake with a racing mind
  • Waking at 3 a.m. and staying awake
  • Watching the clock and doing the math
  • Sleep that arrives only near morning

During the day

  • Exhaustion that coffee stops fixing
  • Irritability and a short fuse
  • Brain fog and slipping concentration
  • Dreading bedtime before it comes

How is insomnia treated?

Finding the cause

Insomnia is often a symptom with a driver behind it: anxiety, depression, ADHD, medications, or habits that crept in. We evaluate the whole picture before treating the surface.

Treatment

Behavioral approaches to sleep are first-line and durable; when medication has a role, we use it deliberately and explain the plan, rather than defaulting to years of sleep aids.
