Men's Mental Health in Iowa City

Many men are taught to handle it alone. If it has stopped working, our care is practical, direct, and built for people who were not planning to end up in a psychiatrist's office.

Why a men's mental health focus?

Men are diagnosed and treated for mental health conditions far less often than they experience them. Depression and anxiety in men frequently look like anger, overwork, or drinking rather than sadness, so they get missed, by everyone including the person living them.

What can it look like?

Often not what the textbooks describe:

Common signs

  • A shorter fuse than you used to have
  • Working to exhaustion to avoid slowing down
  • Drinking or other habits quietly escalating
  • Withdrawing from friends and family
  • Headaches, tension, and sleep problems
  • Feeling checked out of your own life

How we approach it

Practical and direct

Clear evaluation, straight answers, and a plan with defined goals. No judgment, and no pressure to talk in ways that do not fit you.

Built around your schedule

Telehealth appointments across Iowa, including evenings, so care fits around work rather than competing with it.
